Reports from Farmlands in Flux
In 2010, I led this ambitious project that looked at how Canada's two most agriculturally productive regions -- Ontario's Greenbelt and British Columbia's Fraser Valley -- were evolving in the face of a growing local food movement. Myself, reporter Jeff Nield, and photographer Justin Langille traveled through these regions talking to growers, processors and distributors about how to make local food economies work.
The series was funded by the Metcalf Foundation, Tides Canada Foundation, and Vancity and produced with The Tyee Solutions Society. It won a gold medal for best series from the Canadian Online Publishing Awards in 2011.
